A 23-year-old woman from Rapthadu of Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh and a man in his late 40s of Neredmet in the city died of swine flu while undergoing treatment at Gandhi hospital here on Thursday.The health officials said that she was the first person from AP to have died of swine flu this season and The Health Director of the AP would be informed of the death to take further preventive steps in that State.
The man from Neredmet was admitted three days ago. With his death, total number of deaths caused by swine flu since August 29 this year rose to five in Telangana. Twelve persons diagnosed with swine flu were being treated at the hospital.
officials maintained that They are recuperating and are out of danger. However, five more persons suspected to have contacted swine flu were also admitted. Their test results are yet to be received.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA K. Laxman urged the Government to release white paper on Gandhi and Osmania General Hospitals.
Speaking to this correspondent after visiting the Gandhi hospital premises, the MLA felt the hospital premises were “completely unhygienic and deplorable condition”.
The MLA said that they will raise the unhygienic conditions of Gandhi hospital in the Assembly and demand action against officials responsible.The visit revealed that the hospital was besieged with several problems including shortage of staff to poor sanitation standards to neglected kitchen, he maintained.
According to the MLA, the Government was incurring Rs. 25 lakh a month on the sanitation of the hospital and the contractor was supposed to engage 136 workers to keep the hospital premises spick and span.
