In NASIK OF MAHARASTRA STATE taking inspiration from the ongoing Kumbh Mela, the Ganesh mandals this year around have come up with some interesting decorations like moving tableaux depicting events from the mega religious to attract more crowds to their respective ganesh mandals. Many mandals are even distribution booklets that provide information on the Sinhastha Parv.
Prasad Todse, senior member the Malegaon Stand Mitra Mandal said that no event is bigger than the Kumbh Mela that comes to the city once in 12 years. We have recreated the scene of Ramkund and the royal procession during the Shahi Paransi at our pandal with lord Ganesha witnessing the event.
In Nashik, the Ganesh idols are kept covered during the day and people are allowed ‘darshan’ only during the evening hours. The moving tableaux especially witness huge rush during the evenings. The Nashik Road Deolali Bank Employees have installed a tableau of the ‘Samudra Manthan’, the event that is believed to be the reason behind the Kumbh Mela. Manyy smaller mandals have Mela-related flexes as the background.
Another character that has inspired this year’s Ganeshotsav celebrations is ‘Malhari Martand’. The Jai Bajrang Mandal on College Road has created a replica of lord Khanderaya’s darbar in Jejuri while Ashok Stambh Ganesh Mandal has made a model of Jejuri Gadh temple.
The Ganesh idol sitting in Khanderaya’s posture is also a common sight in many pandals. Tarun Mitra Mandal in Nashik road has installed Ganesha riding on a horse just like Khanderaya. “The popular TV serial on Khanderaya has made many pandals follow the trend,” said Prabhakar Sonawane, a senior member of Ashok Stambh Mitra Mandal.
Many mandals have taken up the task of curtailing funds on decorations and processions and donating the amount for the relief of the drought-hit farmers.
The Genshotsav mandal in YCMOU has created the entire decoration of the pandal with empty mineral water bottles.
Artist Kishor Nikumbh termed the effort as an environment conservation initiative said that Plastic bottles are the most dangerous medium of spreading pollution. The innovative use of these bottles should inspire devotees not to throw them away but recycle them in some way or the other.
