After two years, Most experienced Test opening batsmen Gautam Gambhir is back into Team India Test series against New Zealand for the last two matches to replace K Lokesh Rahul , who was injured. Rahul was ruled out of the remainder of the Test series due to a right hamstring injury.
“BCCI medical team has confirmed that team India opener, KL Rahul has an injury in his right hamstring and he is ruled out for the remainder of the Paytm Test series against New Zealand,” BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke said in a release.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Gautam Gambhir as Rahul’s replacement for the next two Test matches,” he added.
On Tuesday, Gambhir had appeared for a fitness test at the NCA in Bangalore who was more impressive in the recent Duleep Trophy, where he scored 94, 36, 90, 59 and 77 as he led India Blue to the title. It was also India’s first day-night domestic tournament which was played with the pink ball.

Medium pacer Ishant Sharma who missed the first test due to chikungunya is going to miss the second at Eden gardens too . Haryana off-spinner Jayant Yadav was named by BCCI as his replacement. Jayant is yet to make his debut for India in Tests.
India, after winning the first Test India have a chance to regain ICC Test Rankings top spot if they win the second Test. The match will be played at Kolkata and will also be Indian team’s 250th Test at home.
