Snapdeal’s chief product officer Anand Chandrasekaran tweeted that Snap-Lite would make mobile browsing 85 per cent faster. E-commerce marketplace Snapdeal , run by Jasper Infotech Pvt Ltd, has unveiled a light version of its mobile website, three days after larger rival Flipkart announced a similar offering. In September, Snapdeal launched its one hour refunds feature a fortnight after Flipkart’s announcement of its instant refund mechanism facility, which had a turnaround time of 24 hours. Even though 3G and 4G networks are growing in the country, a large number of users are still on slower 2G networks. While 3G and 4G data packs are relatively expensive, several users have stuck to the slower networks.

Flipkart Lite was criticized for building a chrome-only experience.However Snap-Lite, a mobile experience does mimic the desktop site and importantly, works across all browsers. Snapdeal’s chief product officer Anand Chandrasekaran tweeted saying that mobile browsing of Snapdeal will be 85% faster with Snaplite.

Internet companies and social media networks are introducing nimble version of their apps/mobile websites to capture developing markets such as India.
